Holding handmade signs with pleas for more funding and support, groups of educators and their supporters gathered at intersections in Wake County on Wednesday.
The teachers are pointing out that North Carolina is ranked low in areas such as teacher pay and state funding for public schools.
The National Education Association said that the average teacher salary in NC is about $14,000 less than the national average, making the state 43rd in the country for teacher pay.
Teachers in Northern Ireland have been offered a pay rise of 4% for 2025/26, backdated to 1 September 2025. The offer has come from the teaching employers, including the Department of Education (DE).
