Step onto campus and you might hear one of the most unique sounds at CBMM, the Point Lookout Bell Tower. Built around 1888 and brought to St. Michaels in 1968, this historic fog bell once warned mariners navigating the treacherous waters where the Potomac meets the Bay. Today, we do not get much fog in St. Michaels, so we ring the bell every half hour using traditional ship’s bell time. It is a living reminder of how generations of sailors kept time at sea.
